On Cheerfulness....

Good day to all of you! I hope that you have had a wonderful day of enjoying the Lord and all of his blessings. He is so good- I am so very blessed in His mercy and grace. :)

I felt led to write a post on cheerfulness. I hope that it will be a help to you as we travel down the "straight and narrow". :)

In the Bible, God says a lot about being cheerful.

Proverbs 15:13 - "A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit."

Proverbs 17:22 - "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."

Proverbs 15:30 - "A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones."

Many times, it is easy to be cheerful when everything is going our way. All the world seems fine and good - you know the feeling! : )

But what happens when something comes along that we don't like? Sometimes, it is really easy to sink into self-pity. It's the "Why do I have to be the one who has to do this?!" attitude.

God wants us to be cheerful in all situations. That is something I know I'm working on, and I know there are several others who feel the same.

If you know me, you probably know that I like gospel bluegrass. Now, you're probably thinking, "What does bluegrass have to do with cheerfulness?" I'll tell you. :)

There is a song called "Keep on the Sunny Side". The lyrics go something like this:

"There's a dark & a troubled side of life
There's a bright, there's a sunny side, too
Tho' we meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view.

[chorus] Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us ev'ry day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life

The storm and its fury broke today,
Crushing hopes that we cherish so dear;
Clouds and storms will, in time, pass away
The sun again will shine bright and clear.

[chorus]

Let us greet with the song of hope each day
Tho' the moment be cloudy or fair
Let us trust in our Saviour always
Who keepeth everyone in His care"

[chorus]

Why do I like this song? Because it reminds me to "Keep on the Sunny Side"- to stay cheerful and be an encouragement to others.

Cheerfulness is a wonderful way to share God's love. I urge you to show (and share!) cheerfulness with those around you as you go through your week.

Blessings in Christ!
