Childish Homeschooler Syndrome, Part One

The Botkin sisters have once again blessed us with more thought provoking material. They are the authors of "So Much More" and blog at http://visionarydaughters.com/. Their most recent post is the beginning of a three part series. It's definitely something you won't want to miss.

An excerpt:

However, once we consider ourselves adults we need to take responsibility for our own shortcomings.

There comes a point where every person must rise above his circumstances, for no circumstances are perfect. Each of us stands alone before God, individually responsible for his own deeds, misdeeds and lack of deeds, and God (we know from Scripture) does not accept blame-shifting. When we realize we are lacking in areas, the childish response is to deny responsibility and blame Mommy and Daddy.

On another note, I apologize for the lack of updates! This holiday season has already proven to be a very busy one, so we won't have as much time to find or write articles. We could definitely use your submissions during this time. To submit, email us at stayathomedaughters@ymail.com. Thank you!

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! I thought it would be wonderful and helpful to come up with some ways, especially for us stay at home daughters, to be a blessing to others during this special time of the year.

Thanksgiving is a time for hospitality! Perhaps your family hosts an annual get-together? Whether or not, when you get together with family, there are plenty of ways you can be a large help. Now is the time to watch your mother and other women around you, to learn how they display hospitality. It is something that every girl should learn, and learn to love, during her single years. Planning, baking, decorating, and interacting with others in the proper way can help you to prune your hostessing skills. Life experience is the best teacher, and as your mother lets you take over more of her responsibilities you can be a great help to her as you learn the art of hospitality. (Here is a wonderful article on hospitality, if you're interested.)

Another way you can help during Thanksgiving is by keeping little ones occupied. Playing games helps them feel like they are involved with the festivities while the adults are getting things prepared or talking. One thing I LOVE to do with my little sisters is making an "I'm Thankful For..." list. I ask them what they are thankful to the Lord for this year, and I write their answers down and read them (or let them read them, if they are old enough) aloud for everyone to hear. It always makes me smile to hear what children can come up with to be thankful for... it can be sobering at times. :)

I won't list all my ideas. I want to hear from you, readers! What do you do to help out during Thanksgiving? What are your favorite things about Thanksgiving? What are some of your family's traditions? Leave a comment or submit a post!

I just adore Thanksgiving and I *can't wait* until next Thursday. I think the best part is spending the whole day with my family, conversing with each other and giving thanks to God.
Alright... reading 'The Landing of the Pilgrims' is pretty fun too. ;)

Of Salt and Losing it's Savor

Mrs. Jennie Chancey comments on feminist Katha Pollitt's recent piece in The Nation.

"The love [Palin] got from Republican women, including very conservative, traditional women, shows that what I like to call the feminism of everyday life is taking hold across the spectrum. That old frilly-doormat model of femininity is gone: even women who stay home and attend churches that bar women from the clergy thrill to the idea of women being all that they can be and taking their rightful place in the public realm. Like everyone else, they want respect and power, and now, finally, thanks to the women's movement they despise, they may actually get some."

Do we want "respect and power," or do we want to die to self and live for Christ? "For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again" (2 Cor. 5:14-15 NKJV).

I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes Unto The Hills...

by Lady Why
...from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. Psalm 121

I have seen is a lot of my Christian friends wringing their hands in despair at the this disastrous election. My passion and, ahem, outspoken nature may lead some to believe that I have been wringing my hands. Not so. Not once. Not even a little bit. This is because I know the Lord is Sovereign and worthy to be praised! We can trust Him! As we rest under His wing we have nothing to fear... even Barack Obama. Oh, he's scary to be sure! To the world, he's a savior. But, we already have a Savior. A Savior that ordained the outcome of this election before the foundation of the earth. An outcome that is for our good and His glory. For that reason, we must thank the Lord for the administration He has ordained because the Bible commands that we thank the Lord in all things. Even the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad things.

Five Things Which Are No Different About This Election from All Other Presidential Elections in Our History

By Doug Phillips

1. God is still on the throne.

2. The Scriptures are still the only rule of action for Christians.

3. The duty of believers at the ballot box is the same today as it has always been. We may only select leaders who meet the Scriptural requirements for civil magistrate. Leaders need not be perfect, but they must be qualified.

Visionary Daughters on Sarah Palin

Anna Sophia and Elizabeth Botkin, authors of So Much More, posted a Q&A on Sarah Palin, answering such questions as,

"Isn’t it a good thing that feminism is becoming more conservative?"
"Isn’t a vote for anyone other than McCain/Palin a wasted vote?"

A very good read.
