Who We Are

Katie
Katie is an 19 year old stay at home daughter. She lives in Alabama with her five younger siblings and mulitple pets. An avid reader and pianist, she loves helping to teach her siblings and holding babies. Katie also loves knitting, singing, designing websites, doing laundry, reading, sending letters, sewing, old movies, fixing her little sisters' hair, antique bookshops, baking and decorating cakes, piano, dresses and aprons.

What We Believe

Stay at home daughters are young women who are defying cultural standards by purposing to fulfill their role at home, with their family, and under their father's roof and authority until marriage. We are anti-feminism, and we are counter-cultural.

At stayathomedaughters.com, we purpose to seek the Lord through the scriptures to determine our beliefs and convictions.

Since we tend to get a lot of negative responses, I'd like to clear up some common misconceptions about stay at home daughterhood.

-We do not believe that women should be uneducated, used as a doormat, or of any less value than men. Men and women are equal in the eyes of the Lord, but they have different roles. The best description of what a godly woman needs to aspire to is found in Proverbs 31.

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31 : 10-31

-We do not believe that young women should be lazy during their single years! Your years as a stay at home daughter are extremely valuable! These are years you can use to get prepared to be a wife and mother someday. There are so many homemaking skills that you need to know! These are years when you can further your education, whether it's taking some classes, reading on your own, or learning online. These are also years you can use to deepen your relationships with your parents and siblings, or pursue entrepreneurial endeavors.

-We do not believe all young women should be doing the same thing, at the same time. Every stay at home daughter is different, with different fathers (and mothers!). Each one has various gifts, and abilities. There is no uniform standard!

I'd like to quote Jennie Chancey, who runs ladiesagainstfeminism.com. Anti-feminism and stay at home daughterhood go hand in hand, so these same principles apply here:

'We are not here to sit in judgment over individual circumstances. All women are welcome here. We know that not everyone working a job outside the home is a feminist. And those who do embrace feminism are still individuals and not a vast faceless entity. Our desire is to share the truth about the roots and causes of feminism and the effects it has had on society and culture. Some of us writing for LAF were once feminists ourselves. This site is not called "Ladies Against Feminists." Any feminist visiting this site would be welcome around our dinner tables. "

Our Purpose

The purpose of this site is to equip and encourage young women who are choosing the path of stay at home daughterhood!

We post articles written by and for stay at home daughters, to give girls the chance to speak what's on their mind and to give older women the chance to impart some wisdom that they wish they had known at a younger age.

"The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."

Submission guidelines are as follows:

-Submit any of your own work. These can be things that have never been published before, or something that you've posted on your blog. If it's been published before, Stay at Home Daughters will only publish a portion of the article with a link to your blog.

-You may submit other articles that you have found that fit the theme of the website, as long as you have permission from the author.

-Articles are the staple of Stay at Home Daughters, but feel free to submit more light-hearted posts like recipes, tutorials, sewing, poems, or anything you'd like. We will be posting these in the bimonthly newsletter, and occasionally on the website.

-To submit, send an email with your article or post attached, to stayathomedaughters@ymail.com. Please include your name and last initial, and if you'd like, your website or blog address.

-If your submission is appropriate for Stay at Home Daughters we will send you an email reply to let you know that your article was accepted.
