Guest Post: Feminine Dress

Miss Jen, over at Blessed Femina, has graciously given us permission to post the following article from her blog. Miss Jen has done a fabulous job of compiling some excellent resources for modest apparel and I thought I would share it with you. =)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
~Feminine Dress~

I am always excited to receive questions
from my dear readers...
and one recently came to me from a
sweet lady named Mrs.Cari B
who asked this delightful question...
which has been asked by others as well~

Miss Jen,
........
"I must ask and please feel free to email me if you'd prefer,
where do you purchase your modest/feminine clothing?
You always look so lovely and a goal of
mine for 2010 is to dress more feminine."

Blessings,
Cari

Modesty as well as femininity has been a particular
passion of mine for the last 10 years
and through much study and research I have come to understand
that both can be obtained without neglecting
the importance of either virtue.

As women we are called to be
distinctly feminine and
modest.
(Genesis 3:21, Titus 2:5, Deuteronomy 22:5,
Proverbs 31:25, I Timothy 2:9)

Unfortunately, our culture is dictating a
different path... one that
shuns modesty
regarding it to be too 'old fashioned' and embraces an
immodest femininity... skin tight clothing, low tops etc...
Sadly, sometimes the so
called "modest" apparel in the stores
can be anything but feminine and
perhaps a bit on the masculine side.

With this goal in mind to find beautiful, modest, attractive
feminine clothing it has led me to be on the search for some
time... I have found the below businesses to be quite helpful,
indeed... Although, not all of their styles of clothing
might meet your needs or preferences etc.. I hope they will inspire you
a wee bit on the path towards 'True Feminine Beauty'.

~Beautiful Clothing Companies~

My favorite ;) *sigh*
carries a vast collection of
beautiful feminine, flowy apparel
made from the most lovely of fabrics...
silks,
rayons and etc... it is common
to find precious ribbons, tucks, eyelet
and other such delights on her apparel.

Victorian Trading Co.
Offers a delightful collection of
hats &
millinery.
Perfect for an everyday treat
or special occasion.
Adorned with ribbons, embroidery
and scrumptious roses these lovely hats
are sure to keep the sun off your face
.......whilst attaining a
feminine stylish appearance, too. ;)

Clean & graceful lines perfect for casual
or semi-formal occasions

Offers a lovely collection
of skirts... which I find to
be wonderfully comfortable.

The Scarlet Thread
A lovely collection of formal &
casual feminine apparel....
and doll dresses, too.

Hannah Lise

The nice thing about this
company is that you are
guaranteed
no slits whatsoever
in any of their skirts or dresses.

Christa Taylor
Modern, spunky and with a hint
of
1950's flair, Christa offers a variety
of apparel fit for any Grace Kelly
or Audrey Hepburn style
enthusiast.
Christa is a Christan young woman
who does, indeed, have a passion for fashion.

Talbots
Offers some simple, elegant
sophisticated lines
...
Although, not all of their inventory
has been feminine or modest~
I have found some lovely tops, blouses
and skirts from their company.

StoryBook Heirlooms
Are sadly out of business but still to
be found on
ebay, at thrift stores and etc..
I have a favorite long,
flowy, lace, blue Easter
dress from this lovely company.
One of their specialties was
mother
and daughter outfits.

In Timely Fashion

Delightful fashion inspiration
and
encouragement from the past.

A nice array of
comfortable modest apparel.

We are happy to have one close to
where we live.

Laura Ashely
...Dresses are hard to find and
are great treasures, indeed.
I found most of my gems through
ebay, and thrift shopping... ;)
What do I love about them?
Their
gorgeous prints, feminine styles,
amazingly thin high quality cotton and the
fact they were mostly made in Britain.

~Lovely Sewing Patterns~

Mrs. Jennie Chancey the founder of this
beautiful company offers a delightful collection
of designs from the past...
Whether you are reenacting,
going to a special ball or simply
want to wear some old fashioned elegance
everyday ;)... you will be happy to find a
LOVELY collection of patterns
from the
Regency Era (1795-1820)
Romantic Era (1820-1837)
Edwardian Era (1900-1910)
Titanic Era (1911-1914)
Swing Era (1940s)

Baker Lane
A beautiful collection of
Motherhood patterns.

The Paisley Pincushion

A sweet pattern company that
has some delightful aprons, jumpers,
dresses and baby clothes, indeed.

Common Sense Patterns
A delightful collection of childrens clothing,
jumpers, lace petticotts and the list goes on.
I have made a couple of their lovely dresses.

It is a true delight, blessing and joy to be a lady
for that is what God created us women to be...
so smile, walk gracefully
and proclaim~
'Feminine Loveliness' to the world.

2010 New Year's Resolutions

With 2010 just around the corner, there has been a lot of talk about New Year's Resolutions and what we are planning to accomplish in this next year in our home.

We enjoy following along with Doug Phillips' annual New Year's Challenge, which can be found here, as well as developing our own goals and plans for the upcoming year.

I know that personally, I would like to memorize more scripture, pass my driver's license test, and concentrate on finishing up my senior year of high school amongst other things.

What are your resolutions?

Please feel free to share your resolutions/goals/plans in the comments section, ladies! I'm sure that it will be a wonderful discussion topic! =)

How Twilight is Re-Vamping Romance

A very insightful perspective on the side-effects of the Twilight obsession that's sweeping the nation, by the Botkin sisters.

An excerpt:

Once upon a dark and stormy year, tens of millions of women and girls, all ages, all nations, all religions, fell under the spell of one 17-year-old boy…

who was not even human…

and was not even real.

This imaginary man-god from the underworld became the new standard by which millions of real husbands, boyfriends and suitors were weighed in the balance and found wanting. To millions of women, reality began to pale in comparison to his dark and fantastical world – the only world where they could be with Their Edward...

A Stay at Home Daughterhood Article Series

Rebekah S. from "~By His Grace and For His Glory~" has begun an article series on Stay at Home Daughterhood over at her blog! We'll be posting excerpts and links from these articles as she posts them, every Friday. I hope you will be blessed and encouraged!

Here are the first three installments:

Introduction to the Stay-At-Home Daughterhood Series
What was once so natural and almost universally accepted and practiced, has become an enigma. Today, it's even a fighting phrase for some and even a picture of enslavement. What is this hated and misunderstood topic I speak of? Nothing other than what we refer to as stay-at-home daughterhood. As we will discover through our study, this concept of Biblical daughterhood was one that was once widely popular and seen as perfectly normal, safe and wise. What changed, and why? How did we go from the mindset of full support of stay-at-home daughterhood to one of sincere hatred at the very thought of it? We will uncover the answers to these questions as well as many others throughout the course of this series.

Beginning at the Beginning: The Lord's Beautiful Plan, Design and Purpose for Womanhood Part 1
Before we approach the subject of stay-at-home daughterhood head-on and form a defense thereof, I believe it imperative that we first begin at the beginning. What exactly do I mean by that? Well, I believe we should step back and discover from God's Word what exactly womankind's job description is-why woman was created, what she is to do, what high callings Almighty God has given to her, etc. This valuable study will provide us with a beautiful portrait of womanhood which will reveal just why stay-at-home daughterhood is so important to the heart of God and to His plan for women, and how it fits into His design for womanhood.

Beginning at the Beginning: The Lord's Beautiful Plan, Design and Purpose for Womanhood Part 2
Two weeks ago, we discovered what the first calling was that God gave to women, that of being a helper to man. It is now time for us to discover another one of the high and glorious callings God has given uniquely and solely to women...

Ever So Faithful: A Poem

Ever So Faithful
By Shelley B.

Come near to me so I can share,
A secret that is rare,
Bound by truth,
Just as Ruth,
Ever so faithful,
I will share this tale so charmful,
And truly divine,
It will not fail to shine,
As a beacon on a hill,
Bringing the world to stand still,
Of a wonderful gift,
That promised to lift,
Our burden of sin,
That in the end did win,
Our souls over to Him,
We do not accept it as just a whim,
But with all of our heart soul and mind,
We choose to accept it as a bind,
To our Heavenly Father,
That through no other,
Then of His perfect Son,
The impossible could be done,
That death could be defeated,
So that his love could be completed,
In a most amazing way,
To cause a heart to sway,
A spirit to renew,
If only you believe it’s true,
Then listen when I say,
That there will be a day,
When all else fails,
And faith unveils,
The true believer,
Who He will deliver,
At the end,
Just around the bend,
Not before the tares,
As they declare,
But after all is passed,
Then shall the last trumpet blast,
Announcing the Lord‘s return,
For the waiting bride he beckoned
Which forever held true,
Though they are so few,
Forever He will hold them dear,
Because for Him they stayed pure.

…but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 10:22
